Can a side hustle that's fully detached, digital, and automated still be considered meaningful work? This study introduces D-DASH (Detached Digital Automated Side Hustle) as a new business model archetype — where AI, dropshipping, and algorithm-driven platforms replace personal involvement, skill development, and customer interaction. Through a netnographic analysis, the authors reveal how automation reshapes five core work characteristics: autonomy becomes strategic detachment, significance and identity diminish, skill variety drops, and feedback is reduced to metrics.
