Field Trip to the Westpfalz-Klinikum in Kaiserslautern: Insights into Central Bed Management
As part of the Innovation Management course, students from RPTU visited the Westpfalz-Klinikum in Kaiserslautern. The goal of the field trip was to gain practical insight into the operations of a large hospital and, in particular, to learn about the challenges of central bed management.
The students were welcomed and guided through the hospital by Dr. Janina Geib, Deputy Medical Director, and Marcel Klinck from Central Bed Management. During the tour, participants gained fascinating insights into the inner workings of the hospital: In addition to Central Bed Management, the itinerary included the emergency room, the shock rooms, and a pulmonology ward.
The focus of the excursion was on how bed capacities in a hospital can be planned, managed, and utilized as efficiently as possible. As part of the course, the students will now work on developing approaches to further optimize bed management.
A special highlight at the end of the visit was a tour of the helipad on the roof of the Westpfalz-Klinikum, from which the students could enjoy a breathtaking view of Kaiserslautern.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Janina Geib, Marcel Klinck, and the team at the Westpfalz-Klinikum for the fascinating insights and the time they have taken to help our students.
