International Financial Reporting for Decision-Makers
The IFRS are increasingly established as the standard for financial reporting in corporate practice. At the same time, it can be observed in practice that controlling instruments and financial reporting are increasingly intertwined. The aim of this course is, on the one hand, to provide a comprehensive understanding of financial reporting according to the IFRS and, on the other hand, to illustrate the relevance of these standards for managerial control.
In particular, upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to...
- analyze and interpret financial reports in accordance with IFRS,
- apply important standards of the IFRS to typical accounting problems,
- evaluate the concepts and theories fundamental to the IFRS from an economic perspective,
- evaluate the implications of the IFRS accounting standards for managerial control as well as the advantages and disadvantages of integrated accounting.
To this end, the following content will be covered, among others:
- Differences between IFRS and German GAAP
- Institutional and conceptual foundations of IFRS
- Elements and contents of financial reporting according to IFRS
- Application and interpretation of IFRS for important financial statement items (e.g. property, plant and equipment, intangible assets, financial instruments, inventories, provisions, sales)
