Programme structure

That's what it's all about:

The Master's programme builds directly on the content of the previous Bachelor's programme, but gives you greater freedom and takes your specialist interests into account. For example, you can choose a specialisation area from a wide range of topics in the economics part of the Master's degree programme. The economics curriculum is supplemented by compulsory modules in qualitative or quantitative methods and a compulsory business internship.

The economics specialisation is chosen from a profile area.

The Management profile area can be selected:

  • Marketingmanagement
  • Human Resource Management und Organizational Behavior
  • Strategy, Innovation and Cooperation
  • Sustainability Management
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Management der digitalen Transformation

The profile area Accounting and Finance can be chosen:

The Intelligence, Logistics & Operations profile area can be selected:

The Economics profile area can be selected:

  • Environmental and Industrial Economics
  • Economic Theory

The electrical engineering part builds on the content of the Bachelor's degree programme. Here, too, you have many options to choose from:
You can choose modules totalling 38 ECTS credits from up to two areas of the following specialisations of the Master's degree programme in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology as well as the prerequisite Bachelor's modules:
- Automation Technology
- Energy Technology
- Embedded Systems
- Integrated Systems
- Communication Technology
- Mechatronics

Research-based learning forms an important pillar of the Master's programme with seminars, a research project and the Master's thesis.

Key data on the process

The Master's programme builds on the subject areas you already know from your Bachelor's programme and deepens the technical and business content in the curriculum to roughly the same extent. You keep your chosen technical specialisation. However, thanks to our wide range of options, you are free to put together your own individual study programme according to your interests and career plans.

To give you a real-world perspective, a business internship is a compulsory part of the programme. Here you can put your theoretical knowledge to the test in practice and gain valuable insights into the world of work. There is also the option to take part in a research project to deepen your skills in scientific work.

In terms of methodology, the four-semester Master's programme at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics takes your personal responsibility and independence into account by switching to research-based learning: The focus here is on independent research achievements in the form of a seminar paper, a research project and your final Master's thesis.

Business internship

An economic internship of 12 weeks is required for your Master's degree programme in Industrial Engineering and Management. You should be aware of this:

  • The practical phase must take place in an economic context, whereby the exact areas of deployment are flexible.
  • Working hours should be at least 20 hours per week. A 40-hour week does not affect the number of hours per week.
  • You have the option of splitting the internship between different companies.
  • You are responsible for finding suitable internships.

This internship is an integral part of your degree programme and should be completed before you graduate.

Are you perhaps wondering what added value a business internship can have during your WI degree programme? Let me show you why this experience is so worthwhile:

  • Experience knowledge in action: You have acquired theoretical foundations as part of your WI degree programme. An internship allows you to apply this knowledge in real business scenarios and see how theory works in practice.
  • Diverse insights: The world of business administration is wide-ranging, from marketing and finance to corporate strategy. During your internship, you can explore different departments and find out which area appeals to you the most.
  • Clarity for your professional future: If you are still unsure about your career path, an internship can give you clarity. You will find out whether your ideas match reality.
  • Make contacts: During your internship, you will have the opportunity to make valuable contacts in the industry. These contacts can help you later when you start your career.
  • Strengthen your CV: Employers value practical experience. An internship can add a special touch to your CV and increase your chances for future applications.
  • Develop soft skills: In addition to specialised knowledge, you can also improve your communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills - skills that are in demand in any career.
  • The possibility of being taken on: Many companies see internships as a springboard for future permanent positions. Get involved during your internship, as this could open your door to long-term job opportunities.
