We place particular emphasis on providing you with the necessary "tools of the trade" for your academic career. It all starts with the "scientific foundations and methods". We start with mathematics and statistics, which provide you with a solid foundation for many subjects in business administration, economics and electrical engineering. Don't worry, we will support you in mastering these subjects, which are often perceived as difficult, and teach you the joy of applying them in the world of business. But that's not all, because we also want to introduce you to the fascinating world of data science. Here you will learn how to extract valuable information from large amounts of data and derive practical recommendations for company management. With this knowledge, you will be able to master real challenges in the business world and develop innovative solutions.
To make your training holistic, we will also train you in the areas of scientific theory and soft skills. These skills are invaluable for your personal development and your future career. You will not only be well prepared professionally, but also trained to become critical thinkers and empathetic team players.
Teaching the basics of business administration and economics through varied lectures, practical exercises and personal tutorials in the fundamentals of economics. Three important areas of business administration are covered:
Business Administration I: Accounting & Finance: Here you will learn the basics of cost and revenue accounting as well as financial reporting. Investment and financial accounting are also part of the program.
Business Administration II: Management: This area gives you an introduction to the management of companies. You will become familiar with topics such as organization, strategy, marketing, personnel management and digital transformation.
Business Administration III: Intelligence, Logistics & Operations: This part is more mathematically and methodically oriented and includes an introduction to production control processes, logistics, operations research and business informatics.
The two basic economics modules offer you a fascinating insight into how the economy works at different levels. In microeconomics, you will gain an overview of the structure of markets and how prices for goods are formed. You will also learn how decisions are made by companies regarding their market entry and how this affects overall economic welfare. In macroeconomics, on the other hand, you will learn the basics of national accounts. Here you will learn how macroeconomic variables such as employment (unemployment) and inflation are determined. In addition, macroeconomic development patterns such as business cycles and growth are analyzed.
Civil and company law form an important basis for entrepreneurial decisions. Here you will familiarize yourself with the legal aspects that are of great importance to companies.
These exciting modules provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the economic context and prepare you to make well-founded decisions in the business world. The knowledge you acquire will help you to master the complex challenges of the business world and become a successful entrepreneur or expert in the field of economics.
Building on this, you have the opportunity to choose your three specializations from four exciting profile areas - this means you can design your studies entirely according to your interests! And within these areas, there are even more options open to you to deepen your knowledge of the topics that fascinate you the most.
Take a look at the profile areas we offer that build on the basics:
In each of these profile areas, you will find versatile modules that will help you to deepen the basics and expand your knowledge. You can expect interesting content that will enrich you on your academic path. From the winter semester 2024/25, a fifth profile area, "Data Analytics", will be available to choose from.
One of the profile areas will be particularly exciting, as you will complete a seminar in which you will write a paper and give a presentation. This is a great opportunity to apply and reflect on your knowledge in a practical way.
In the technical part of the course, we offer you a comprehensive and in-depth education in the fields of energy and process engineering. The training is made possible by a comprehensive selection of lectures and practice-oriented practical courses that give you a deep understanding of the underlying principles and processes.
The lectures on general and inorganic chemistry serve as a basis for developing an understanding of chemical processes that play an important role in energy and process engineering. The elements of technical mechanics provide you with the necessary knowledge of forces and movements that are important in the design and optimization of technical systems. Thermodynamics enables you to understand and analyze the energy conversions in technical processes.
Descriptive geometry and technical drawing are essential skills for the design and planning of technical systems and machines. The fundamentals of bioprocess engineering will give you an understanding of biotechnological processes and their applications. The lectures on mechanical and thermal process engineering show you the basics of processes in which mechanical and thermal energy is used. Fluid mechanics enables you to analyze and optimize the flow of liquids and gases in technical applications. Materials science provides you with knowledge about materials and their properties, which are important in the design of technical systems.
We also offer you the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in specific areas. You can focus on energy process engineering to optimize energy generation and conversion processes. Process and plant engineering enables you to design and operate complex technical systems. In solids process engineering and waste treatment, you will learn how to handle solid materials and waste products and develop sustainable solutions. Fluid machinery deals with the devices that convey and move liquids and gases in technical processes. Apparatus engineering and technology enable you to design and construct special devices and machines for technical processes. Bioreactor and bioprocess technology offers insights into biotechnological processes and their application in industry. Finally, we look at heat transfer to improve the efficiency of heat exchange processes.
Overall, the technical part of our degree program offers a wide range of specialist areas and opportunities, allowing you to deepen your interest and expertise in the areas relevant to you. This course prepares you optimally for a career in energy and process engineering and enables you to develop innovative solutions for the technical challenges of our time. Your acquired knowledge and practical skills will make you a sought-after specialist who can make valuable contributions in various branches of industry and research areas.
In addition to the seminar paper, you will write two further academic papers, the study project and the Bachelor's thesis. The study project allows you to apply the theoretical knowledge from the lectures to real projects. This allows you to test and deepen your skills and knowledge in a concrete context. The study project usually involves teamwork. Your Bachelor's thesis will then show whether you have learned to work scientifically. The Bachelor's thesis is written during the last semester of your studies. You have to present and defend your Bachelor's thesis in a colloquium. You can either write your study project in the field of energy and process engineering and your Bachelor's thesis in the field of economics or vice versa.
In addition to the compulsory modules/lectures, participation in a seminar is planned during the course of study. For the Bachelor's degree programs in Industrial Engineering and Management in the fields of
a 6-week basic technical internship is required as a prerequisite for admission to the course. The internships must be completed by the end of the 4th semester.
The six weeks can be completed at different times and at different companies. Internships can be found at almost all companies that offer apprenticeships. Internships must be sought independently.
Internship reports, certificates etc. are not required. The internship certificate must be submitted to the Dean's Office (Building 42, Room 126).
If it is not submitted by the end of the 4th semester, admission will be withdrawn.
