That's what it's all about:

The degree programme is designed in a similar way to a traditional business administration degree programme. However, in addition to the main focus on economic topics, we offer you the opportunity to take technical subjects from your chosen technical specialisation. This not only gives you a sound business education, but also valuable technical expertise that will make you versatile in your future career.

We attach particular importance to providing you with the necessary "tools of the trade" for your academic career. Everything starts with the "scientific basics and methods". We start with maths and statistics, which provide you with a solid foundation for many subjects in business administration and economics. Don't worry, we will support you in mastering these subjects, which are often perceived as difficult, and teach you the joy of applying them in the world of business. But that's not all, because we also want to introduce you to the fascinating world of data science. Here you will learn how to extract valuable information from large amounts of data and derive practical recommendations for company management. With this knowledge, you will be able to master real challenges in the business world and develop innovative solutions.

In order to make your training holistic, we will also train you in the areas of scientific theory and soft skills. These skills are invaluable for your personal development and your future career. You will not only be well prepared professionally, but also trained to become critical thinkers and empathetic team players.

Teaching the basics of business administration and economics through varied lectures, practical exercises and personal tutorials in the fundamentals of economics. Three important areas of business administration are covered:

Business Administration I: Accounting & Finance: here you will learn the basics of cost and revenue accounting as well as financial reporting. Investment and financial accounting are also on the programme.

Business Administration II: Management: This area gives you an introduction to the management of companies. You will become familiar with topics such as organisation, strategy, marketing, personnel management and digital transformation.

Business Administration III: Intelligence, Logistics & Operations: This part of the programme is more mathematically and methodically oriented and includes an introduction to production control processes, logistics, operations research and business informatics.

The two basic economics modules offer you a fascinating insight into how the economy works at various levels. In microeconomics, you will gain an overview of the structure of markets and how prices for goods are formed. You will also learn how decisions are made by companies regarding their market entry and how this affects overall economic welfare. In macroeconomics, on the other hand, you will learn the basics of national accounts. Here you will learn how macroeconomic variables such as employment (unemployment) and inflation are determined. In addition, macroeconomic development patterns such as business cycles and growth are analysed.

Civil and company law form an important basis for entrepreneurial decisions. Here you will familiarise yourself with the legal aspects that are of great importance for companies.

These exciting modules provide you with a comprehensive understanding of economic interrelationships and prepare you to make well-founded decisions in the business world. The knowledge you acquire will help you to master the complex challenges of the business world and become a successful entrepreneur or expert in the field of economics.

Building on this, you have the opportunity to choose your two specialisations from four exciting profile areas - this means you can shape your studies entirely according to your interests! And within these areas, there are even more options open to you to specialise in the topics that fascinate you the most.

Take a look at the profile areas we offer that build on the basics:

  • Accounting & Finance
  • Management
  • Intelligence, Logistics & Operations
  • Economics and Sustainability

In each of these profile areas, you will find versatile modules that will help you to deepen the basics and expand your knowledge. You can expect interesting content that will enrich you on your academic path. From the winter semester 2024/25, a fifth profile area, "Data Analytics", will be available to choose from.

One of the profile areas will be particularly exciting, as you will complete a seminar in which you will write a paper and give a presentation. This is a great opportunity to apply and reflect on your knowledge in a practical way.

In the technical part of our degree programme, you have the opportunity to choose one of the following specialisations:

Civil Engineering: Civil engineering deals with the planning, construction and operation of structures such as buildings, bridges, roads, dams and other infrastructure facilities. Civil engineers design and supervise construction projects, ensuring the safety and stability of structures while taking environmental and economic aspects into account.

Electrical engineering: Electrical engineering deals with the research, development and application of electrical systems and technologies. This includes electrical circuits, control systems, electronics, communication technology, energy generation and distribution as well as automation systems.

Computer science: Computer science deals with the theory, development and application of computers and computer-aided systems. This includes software development, databases, artificial intelligence, algorithms, programming, networks and more.

Mechanical engineering: Mechanical engineering involves the design, development and manufacture of mechanical systems and devices. This includes machines, engines, tools, means of transport and production facilities. Mechanical engineers design solutions that utilise mechanics, thermodynamics, kinematics and materials science.

Process engineering: Process engineering deals with the development, design and optimisation of processes and procedures in the chemical, pharmaceutical, food and other industries. The aim is to convert raw materials into valuable products, taking into account aspects such as efficiency, safety and environmental compatibility.

This interdisciplinary technical component makes up 20% of the course content.

This versatile education will enable you to apply business knowledge in a technical environment, communicate on an equal footing with computer scientists and engineers and understand and take technical aspects into account when making business decisions. Our degree programme will allow you to develop in a wide range of professional fields and realise your career goals.

If you are feeling adventurous, you can also spend an entire semester abroad. You can study at a partner university and incorporate your achievements there into your degree programme. But even if you prefer to stay here, there are many interesting modules on offer at RPTU that are perfectly suited to your business studies.

Your Bachelor's thesis will then show whether you have learnt to work scientifically. The Bachelor's thesis is written during the last semester of the degree programme. You have to present and defend your Bachelor's thesis in a colloquium.

Key data on the process

In addition to the compulsory lectures, the programme also includes participation in a seminar. After a standard period of study of six semesters, the degree programme concludes with a Bachelor's thesis in economics.

The Bachelor's thesis shows whether you have learnt to work scientifically. The Bachelor's thesis is written during the last semester of the degree programme. A "mobility window" ensures that you can easily study for a semester at a foreign partner university and have the credits recognised. If you don't want to go abroad, you can choose modules from the TUK's range that match your degree programme.

Career prospects

With a technical qualification in business administration, you will have just as many career prospects as graduates of traditional business administration degree programmes. Your personal interests and your choice of specialisation during your studies will determine which key functional areas of a company you can work in.

Thanks to your additional technical qualification, however, you will have the special opportunity to work primarily in areas where technical knowledge is an advantage. These include, in particular, marketing and sales in the business-to-business sector. This unique combination of business and technical expertise opens up exciting opportunities for you and makes you a sought-after specialist in the world of work.
