Details of the degree programme

That's what it's all about:
The degree programme usually lasts five years and comprises a multi-stage training programme that ends with a Bachelor's and a Master's degree, followed by a traineeship.
In the Bachelor
In the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree programme in Economics, which comprises a total of 180 credit points (CP), the focus is on the subject of Economics, which takes up 90 CP. Here you will deepen your knowledge and skills in various areas of economics in order to later work as a qualified teacher for this subject.
Business Administration: Three main modules await you in this section. You will start with Business Administration II, in which you will deal with management topics. This is followed by Business Administration III with a focus on Intelligence, Logistics and Operations, which also includes the Investments and Financial Management module. You will also deal with the topic of "Business in Social Responsibility", which will provide you with the basic knowledge for this.
Economics: In the economics section, you will immerse yourself in the macroeconomic and microeconomic aspects of the economy. Microeconomics and macroeconomics are on the curriculum here. You will also deal with topics such as economic policy, game theory and the economics of sustainability. In this area, you will lay the foundations for a comprehensive understanding of economics.
Accounting and Controlling: The Accounting and Controlling module includes subjects such as Accounting and Finance, Financial Reporting and Taxes, as well as Cost and Revenue Accounting. These subjects are crucial for laying a strong foundation in the financial affairs of companies.
Business law: In the area of business law, you will learn the basics of labour law and civil and company law. This knowledge is crucial to understanding the legal aspects of the business world.
Mathematics and Statistics: Finally, Mathematics and Statistics includes modules such as Mathematics for Economists and Statistics I and Statistics II. Here you will develop the necessary mathematical and statistical skills to carry out economic analyses and interpret data.
In addition to your main subject, there is a second subject that contributes 40 CP and broadens your perspective to teach in different school contexts.
Educational sciences also play an important role in your education and contribute 30 CP. These modules provide you with the necessary pedagogical background knowledge to teach students effectively and support the teaching and learning process.
You will also complete 10 CP for school-based internships, which will give you the opportunity to apply what you have learnt in practice and gain experience in actual teaching. To enter the teaching profession, a Master's degree is mandatory.

Master's thesis Your degree programme concludes with the writing of a Master's thesis, in which you have the opportunity to apply and deepen the knowledge and research skills you have acquired.
And afterwards?
52 weeks of professional experience must be proven at the beginning of the preparatory service/traineeship, whereby training is of course recognised. The next step is the traineeship. The traineeship is no longer part of the degree programme, but the second part of teacher training, which is not the responsibility of the universities, but of the Ministries of Education and Cultural Affairs.

Qualification goals and learning outcomes
After your Bachelor's degree, you will usually continue with the Master's degree programme, as the teacher training programme consists of the Bachelor's degree and the subsequent Master's degree programme. In the Master's programme, the subject content and its didactics are studied in greater depth. The second part of the teacher training programme, the preparatory service, is only completed after the Master's degree, which completes the path into school and the role as a teacher. After successfully completing the Bachelor's degree programme, graduates are able to navigate the complex world of economics with confidence. Not only do they have solid analytical and methodological skills to describe, categorise and interpret specific economic processes, but they are also able to close self-identified knowledge gaps quickly and in a results-oriented manner. In business administration, graduates acquire the basic tools and analytical methods and are able to apply these to internal company issues. They are able to apply the theoretical content in business practice. In economics, graduates acquire the basic and theoretical approaches and analytical tools and are able to communicate pricing on markets, macroeconomic accounting and macroeconomic approaches. In the law modules, graduates acquire the ability to apply legal ways of thinking and reasoning and to develop solutions to legal problems.
After successfully completing the Master's degree programme, students will be able to comprehensively analyse business management processes and economic issues and assess different approaches with regard to their advantages, disadvantages and effects. They apply business and economic methods and theories and reflect on them critically. They are able to scrutinise the skills they need for this and expand them in a targeted manner. Students are able to plan, implement and reflect on competence-oriented specialised teaching. In doing so, they will be able to receive the results of economic didactic research. They know the basics of digitalisation in economics teaching as well as performance diagnosis and assessment. Students will be able to deal with both didactic and scientific issues in a structured manner, communicate in oral, written and media-supported form and present them in an appropriate manner.
In general, the Department of Economics aims to provide graduates with a solid professional qualification, specifically in the area of business skills, and to prepare them for a successful professional career. This includes the use of software tools, communication skills, teamwork and problem-solving skills. The programme emphasises the development of social skills, such as communication across cultural differences, conflict resolution and leadership skills, as well as self-regulation skills, which are important in professional contexts. In addition to subject-specific content, the programme also aims to impart a general education in order to educate students to become responsible citizens and promote their personal development.
Critical thinking will be promoted in the individual modules from the outset. Students should be encouraged to question information and ideas, analyse arguments and consider alternative points of view. This is done through discussions, debates, in lectures and seminars. Social and economic issues and current events are incorporated into the courses. This enables students to deal with real problems and to understand and scrutinise their impact on society and the economy.
